This is how a breast augmentation with breast implants works
1. Consultation and planning for breast augmentation with breast implants
When you come to us at Conturkliniken® in Stockholm for the first time, you will meet a doctor to be able to ask all questions, air any concerns and adjust your expectations. The most important thing for us is that you feel safe and have full confidence in us. Sometimes several consultations are needed, which we see as a matter of course as preparation is important for a successful result and a satisfied patient.
During the consultation, you will also see pictures of the results of similar procedures that have been done here at Conturkliniken® in Stockholm.
You will receive a thorough review of anesthesia and preparations for surgery in several rounds, both verbally and in writing. The day before the operation, we have telephone contact for a final review of what will happen on the day of the operation.
2. Preparations for breast augmentation with breast implants
The most important preparations are careful review of your expectations and that the right size for you is tried on. We will examine your general state of health and jointly decide which breast surgery is best for you based on the shape of your own breasts, type of breast implant, surgical method and your aesthetic wishes.
3. The procedure itself
The method used for the insertion and placement of your breast implants is determined by your anatomy and your surgeon's recommendation.
A breast augmentation with breast implants is performed under anesthesia and local anesthesia and takes 1–1.5 hours. You wake up under supervision and rest in the clinic until you are ready to go home. The operation is outpatient, which means you can go home the same day. If you are coming from a long way, we recommend that you stay in Stockholm the first day after the operation. Then you have access to us for the first day and can make a return visit the next day, before you go home.
4. The time after a breast augmentation with breast implants
Convalescence time, what you should avoid for some time after the procedure, etc. we go through it individually with you when we meet. Pain after surgery is common for the first 2–3 days and usually subsides within a week. You will receive painkillers to take home with you. A firm so-called sports bra is used as a support bandage, which must be worn around the clock for a month.
The breasts are tense and swollen at first, and it usually takes several months before they get their final shape. Even the incisions can be felt and seen at the beginning. We recommend that you tape the incisions for several months, this favors healing. You can shower your breasts and wash with mild soap and water daily.
There are no signs that breast implants affect the ability to breastfeed. Likewise, mammography and breast examinations can in most cases be performed in the usual way. In some cases, a more thorough mammography examination (with several images) may be needed to obtain reliable results.
