How does a chemical peel treatment work?
Before a treatment with chemical peeling, you are welcome to visit us at Conturkliniken® in Stockholm for a consultation. We will go through how the treatment can best be adapted to your unique skin type and needs, and what your process will look like.
The next step involves preparing your skin for the chemical peel treatment on your own, using an individually designed medical skin care programme for some time to stimulate the regeneration of epidermal cells and connective tissue. This preparation of the skin enhances the effect of the chemical peel and speeds up the healing process.
During the treatment itself, we apply different solutions to your skin, which in their combination can be weak or stronger. The choice of strength is determined by the problems to be addressed, but also the convalescence that you have time and desire for.
- For simple peeling, the treatment is performed after thorough cleansing of the skin. The treatment takes 45-60 minutes and you can easily leave the clinic afterwards.
- At Bluepeel, you will have a light anaesthetic, wake up in our recovery room, and go home the same day.
After a few days, the skin begins to flake. It is important not to pull off the flakes of skin - they come off by themselves. You will be given a special cream to apply to your skin. You have several return visits where we give you advice and instructions. After the treatment, it is important to avoid the sun, and you will need to use strong sunscreen daily for the first few months.
Side effects include uneven pigmentation, redness and very rarely scarring. However, side effects are rare and usually resolve quickly. With weaker peels, side effects are extremely rare. To avoid side effects, you should avoid the sun and carefully follow our recommendations on aftercare.
Your skin type, like everyone else's, is unique and there are many reasons why, for example, you develop large pores or wrinkles more or less early. Heredity, sun exposure, smoking and exposure to the elements all affect your skin to some extent.
If you want a proper and visible refreshment of your skin, chemical peeling is a good and effective skin treatment method. A chemical peeling is advantageously combined with medical skin care in a skin treatment programme.
What is chemical peeling?
A chemical peel treatment involves removing old skin and restoring the quality of the skin in depth - right down to the top of the dermis (the middle of the skin's three surface layers). This helps to reduce minor wrinkles, tighten the skin, reduce acne scars and stretch marks, shrink pores, and reduce age spots and sun damage.
In a chemical peel, we apply different solutions to the skin. We do this to remove the outer dead cell layer and stimulate the formation of new cells. New and healthier skin is then healed with this effective and in-depth treatment. A chemical peel treatment is preferred for many reasons, as it deeply addresses the quality of the skin.
Here you can read more about laser peeling, another successful treatment method we offer here at Conturkliniken.
Results after a chemical peel
Immediately after treatment, the skin will react in a way that shows that the treatment has worked. The extent of the reaction depends on the strength of the treatment chosen.
- Weaker chemical peeling:
If you choose a slightly weaker mixture, there will be little or no convalescence, your skin will look healthy and fresh immediately but the treatment may need to be repeated to achieve the results you want. - Stronger chemical peeling:
A treatment with a stronger chemical peel goes deeper into the skin layer, flakes off old skin and requires a few days of convalescence. You will feel completely healthy and alert but the skin on your face will have significant redness, and you may not feel completely comfortable exposing yourself to others.
Chemical peeling is a gentle and effective treatment method. Regardless of the strength of the treatment you choose, the final result of a chemical peel is a visible rejuvenation of your skin. It becomes smoother, softer and has a fresher appearance. Pigmentation changes and fine lines are reduced and pores are tightened.

Chemical peeling with Conturmetoden™ - for a more natural result.
For us at Conturkliniken® in Stockholm, it is important to achieve a naturally beautiful appearance that harmonises with the whole, and does not reveal any intervention.
That's why we perform all our treatments, including chemical peels, according to the Conturmetoden: It is based on the fact that we are all different and that there are several ways to deal with problems.
At Conturkliniken®, each treatment is therefore individually designed, and we often work with a combination of different measures - both surgical and non-surgical.
Combining different methods gives in most cases a superior result, with less contrast after the procedure and a shorter recovery time as well as lower overall costs. At Conturkliniken® in Stockholm, we use a combination of different medical skin care programmes as a preparatory treatment for a chemical peel.
For us, Conturmetoden™ is not only about the procedure itself, but also about giving each patient a personalised approach throughout the treatment - where the follow-up is an important part for you, but also for us.
