  • What is the best way to remove tattoos around nipples?

  • I have two tattoos around my nipples, about 2×2 cm. I have tried to treat them with YAG laser, but it feels like it takes too long and the result is not what I expected. My question now is whether there is any other way, e.g. cutting away the skin and replacing it with other skin from the body? Grateful for the answer.

    Answer:

Cutting away is difficult in this area, as is replacing with other skin, not possible.

When it comes to the YAG laser, there are a few different devices and different performances that affect how many treatments are required. We have the so-called "Golden standard", i.e. one of the most effective devices available, but even with this, many treatments may be required.

  1. Consultation & planning We have a thorough review of what it means to remove a tattoo and how the treatment works. We also draw up a treatment plan. You will be told what the possibilities and limitations are in your particular case. For example, scarring may have occurred in the skin when the tattoo was made, and if there is a thick layer of colour pigment, it may take several treatments before you see results. Depending on the size and the colour used, the number of treatments will vary.
  2. Preparations There are no special preparations. However, you may need to use an anaesthetic cream before the procedure, and must not have sunbathed in the last 3 weeks.
  3. The treatment itself The laser is aimed at the skin and a pulse of light is emitted. When the light hits a pigment grain, it shatters. After a short while, nothing is visible other than some redness. The laser works its way down into the layers of the skin, hitting the topmost grains of colour first. As the tattoo contains a lot of colour, it feels like small stings where the laser light hits, but the less colour the tattoo contains, the less the treatment feels.
  4. The time after There is no special convalescence, but sometimes you will have a dressing with a special plaster that lasts for 3-4 days.

The final result is good but depends on several factors such as healing after the tattoo is done, and how the skin is cared for after the laser treatments.

  • There is no guarantee that the tattoo will disappear completely.
  • There may be pigmentation or scarring associated with the treatments, but it is much more common for damage to the skin to occur when the tattoo is performed.
  • You can get what is known as pigment shifting or depigmentation of the skin.

You are very welcome to contact us at Conturkliniken® in Stockholm for a personal consultation, and we will tell you more in detail about how the process works with us and also talk more about how we can help you. We also go through exactly what wishes and needs you have and how we can help you.

How it works

With laser treatment, we can remove an unwanted tattoo. The YAG laser is based on the fact that the laser light travels at such a high speed that the colour pigments used in the tattoo are simply destroyed and these are then taken care of by white blood cells.

Tattoo removal requires several treatments. The appropriate interval between treatments is 8 weeks. Removing multi-coloured tattoos is usually not a problem. However, the green colour can be difficult to remove.

Some tattoos disappear completely after laser treatment. Sometimes pigment residue or a light relief is visible after tattoo removal.

What is usually called cosmetic tattoos, i.e. lip lines and eyebrows, have been difficult to remove with the old technique because colour pigments that change colour during the treatment may have been used. With the increasingly advanced laser technology and the new laser that we at Conturkliniken® in Stockholm have, it is now easier.

So-called asphalt tattoos, i.e. when asphalt is encapsulated in the skin in case of injuries, are removed without major problems.
