What is chemical peeling?

Have you heard about chemical peeling and thought it might be for you? Chemical peeling is actually not the name of one treatment - but several! It is simply an umbrella term for many different treatments.

Applying acids to the skin gives it a slight lift by removing the outermost layer. Removing the dead skin cells stimulates the formation of new skin cells.

Examples of this type of acid are:

  • AHA
  • BHA
  • TCA
  • PHA

As you get older, the cellular renewal process stops and slows down. A chemical peel improves the skin and the experience of a rejuvenating effect. Chemical peels can be performed on:

  • Face
  • Neck & throat
  • Breasts
  • Hands
  • Arms & legs

How does chemical peeling work?

  • Acne
  • Rosacea
  • Pigmentations
  • Melasma

You apply the acid to your face and leave it on for anything from a minute to 15 minutes. What the acid does is dissolve the bonds between the dead skin cells, making them easier to remove. Fresh skin cells are stimulated to proliferate and, with the help of the skin's collagen and elastin, wrinkles are smoothed out and skin colour is brightened.

Is chemical peeling good and what is its effect?

Chemical peeling is good for the rejuvenating feeling of the skin - and that is also the effect of the treatment. Right after a chemical peel, the skin may feel red, tight and dry. Both that and the fact that the skin then begins to flake - is completely normal. It is the experience of the skin that is replaced.

For skin conditions such as rosacea, the effect of chemical peeling is very good. It leaves the skin soft and moisturised while reducing the characteristic redness. The different acids used are suitable for different conditions.
