This is how chin reduction or chin enlargement works
1. Consultation & planning
During the consultation with the clinic's doctor, we go over your wishes and carefully discuss the possibilities and limitations of a chin surgery based on your wishes. A chin augmentation can be performed through a chin implant or through fillers and fat injections. In the case of a chin reduction, both the chin bone as well as the fat on the tip of the chin are reduced.
We take photographs from different angles and enter them into our computer. There, we can then simulate an imagined result to give you an image of what a chinplasty means for your appearance. Furthermore, we make special sketches to further illustrate what chin surgery entails.
When we agree, we use these as a starting point for the operation. It is of the utmost importance that you as a patient and we as surgeons have the same target image. This means that we meet on several occasions before your chin surgery to discuss details and expectations with the chin surgery.
The most important thing for us is that you feel safe and have full confidence in us. During the consultation, you will also see pictures of the results of similar procedures performed at Conturkliniken® in Stockholm.
2. Preparations
You will receive specific instructions on how to prepare for your chin surgery – chin enlargement or chin reduction. The instructions will concern what to eat and drink, rules for smoking, use of vitamins, medicines and other preparations. The day before the operation, we have telephone contact for a final review of what will happen on the day of the operation.
3. The procedure itself
In the case of chin augmentation with chin implants, you undergo a simple procedure that takes about 30–60 minutes. The operation takes place in a combination of anesthesia and local anesthesia.
The implant is inserted through an incision in the skin under the chin, and in some cases through the mouth. Through the incision, a small pocket is formed where the implant will lie. The implant is then inserted and placed in place in the pocket. After 2–3 hours you go home.
The profile of the chin can also be enhanced by using the body's own fat that is injected. Two treatment sessions may be required to achieve the desired result. This method is best suited for minor adjustments to the profile and jawline.
4. The time after
A chinplasty with chin augmentation is a relatively simple form of surgery and the subsequent process is normally as undramatic as the surgery itself.
You have a tape on your chin for 3–4 days, the incision under the chin is sewn with stitches that stay in the skin and do not need to be removed. Expect a week of convalescence.
