Botox is a drug that is a muscle relaxant. It blocks the nerve impulse to the muscle that gives rise to so-called mimic/dynamic wrinkles.

Fillers are a hyaluronic acid that is injected to restore volume, enhance shape and contour, soften, smooth wrinkles and static folds.

Yes, we inject botox into the jaw muscle and indeed the effect lasts for 3-5 months. At the first treatment session, a so-called standard dose is given and sometimes it may be necessary to supplement within a week because it is a bit individual how much each patient needs to get a good effect. Then you know which dose is right for you, at treatment session 2, etc.

The drug is injected specifically into the muscles that are causing the wrinkle(s). This blocks the nerve signal to that particular muscle in the face. You should avoid going for e.g. massages and facials in the next few days after treatment to prevent the drug from spreading to the surrounding muscles. Exercise should also be avoided for the next 24 hours. Botox does not spread in the body!

As it is an injection treatment, a small amount of bleeding may occur, as well as some redness which usually goes away quite quickly. Normally nothing is visible after a botox treatment.

The effect of the treatment starts after 1-3 days. Full effect is achieved after about 2 weeks. The blocking of the nerve signal to the muscle lasts about 3-5 months (somewhat individually). During this time, the muscle rests while hopefully getting used to the mimic movement that causes the wrinkle, which means that the effect can last longer. The treatment needs to be repeated, but not sooner than 3 months after the last treatment.
