What does the treatment of pigment spots involve?
There are different types of pigmentation and age spots, each treatment is based on the type of pigmentation you wish to treat. It is important to first of all distinguish between different types of age spots, pigmentation and age spots:
- Pigment spots - Can occur due to sun damage and age, also known as Lentigo spots. These pigment spots can often be easily removed with laser treatment. Over time, new spots appear, so it is best to prevent recurrence with a combination of medical skin creams.
- Melasma - A dark discolouration of the skin that mainly affects women who are pregnant or using oral contraceptives or hormone replacement drugs. This type of pigmented skin is usually most successfully treated with medical skincare products such as creams.
- Naevi - Pigmented moles. It is important to distinguish Naevi from Melasma and pigment spots, as these pigmented moles must always be surgically removed and sent for analysis.
Some pigment spots are most quickly treated with laser treatment and/or chemical peeling. Others should avoid the laser altogether and will be treated with a medical device. skin care programme. In some cases, all three options are used as a combined treatment method.
Results after a treatment for pigment spots
The results of a treatment for age spots or pigmentation will vary depending on the type of treatment you have chosen with your doctor, and this in turn depends on the type of age spot or pigmentation you have chosen to treat to remove.
All pigment and age spot removal treatments at Conturkliniken® are individual, and we attach great importance to the initial consultation, where we go through your goals, wishes and conditions and the possibilities available.
An individual treatment plan is always drawn up, based on a unique combination of different skincare concepts and possible treatments. These provide you with the best possible personalised holistic treatment, depending on and based on the cause of the pigmentation changes.
Removing pigment spots, age spots or melasma - how does it work?
There are different ways to treat pigment spots and pigmentation. We at Conturkliniken® currently use these methods for treatments against pigment spots:
Laser treatment
- Q-switched laser - This laser gives very good results. The laser beam breaks up the pigmentary changes, which initially whiten and after a few hours darken and become rough. The skin is healed and looks slightly lighter after 1-2 weeks, and then takes on the same colour tone as your other skin. It is not uncommon to require 1-3 treatments or possibly more to achieve the desired result.
- Carbon dioxide lasers - The carbon dioxide laser is a method that heats the outermost layer of skin on the pigmentation spot. Which method of laser treatment which is right for you, depends on the type of blemish. The method we use is called fractional ultrapulse laser, which gives a short healing period. After a carbon dioxide laser treatment, the treated area will be sore and fluid for a few days before it heals.
